The honest comparison

StockPoint vs When I Work

Both are real products with real strengths. Here's the fair version — When I Work's facts come from its own public pricing and feature pages, checked September 11, 2026. Pricing changes; verify on their site before deciding.

🤝

When When I Work is the right choice

  • Choose When I Work if scheduling is your whole problem — shift templates, swaps, OpenShifts, availability — for a team that works in one place or few places, and payroll and billing already live elsewhere. It's a clean, well-liked scheduler at $2.50–$8 per user per month.
🏆

When StockPoint is the right choice

  • Choose StockPoint if your crews work in client buildings and the schedule is only step one. When I Work schedules and tracks time (time tracking rides on its plans as an attendance add-on); StockPoint verifies each punch with GPS + face check + PIN, runs real W-2 payroll from it, invoices the client from the same hours, and shows which buildings make money — at a flat price, so a growing crew never grows the bill.

Switching from When I Work — three steps

  • 1. Export your people and schedule/timesheet history from When I Work (CSV).
  • 2. Import into StockPoint — workers, buildings, clients, and historical hours (overlaps go to an approval queue).
  • 3. Rebuild your recurring schedules per building once; kiosk QRs go up, workers punch with PINs, and invoices start generating from the same verified hours.

Switcher questions

Is When I Work cheaper for a small crew?

Under ~15 workers with no payroll or invoicing needs, yes — 10 workers on Essentials is about $25/month. The math flips as you grow: 40 workers cost $100–$320/month there, while StockPoint stays $149 and already includes the payroll and invoicing you'd otherwise buy separately.

Does When I Work handle payroll or invoicing?

It integrates with payroll providers and doesn't offer client invoicing. StockPoint computes W-2 withholding in-house and sends branded client invoices from the same verified hours. (We prepare; you or your accountant remit and file.)

Our workers don't all have smartphones — does that matter?

With When I Work, each worker generally uses the mobile app. StockPoint's wall kiosk needs only a worker code and PIN — no phone, no email — with the selfie and GPS captured at the kiosk.

Is StockPoint's scheduler as deep as When I Work's?

No — When I Work's scheduling engine (auto-scheduling, OpenShifts, swaps) is deeper. StockPoint's schedules are per-building and exist to drive missed-punch alerts, payroll, and billing. If complex shift-marketplace scheduling is your core need, that's their strength.

What does switching look like?

An afternoon for the first kiosk, days for the full history import. CSV importers bring workers, buildings, clients, invoice history, and past hours, so payroll and P&L history stay continuous.
